Overview
Grapevine Canyon lies in the hills west of Laughlin, where a spring-fed canyon holds cottonwood trees and hundreds of petroglyph panels carved into the dark rock. A short walk from the parking area leads to the main panels, making it one of the most accessible rock art sites in southern Nevada.
Why Visit
The combination of a shaded spring canyon, cottonwoods and dense rock art is unusual in the Mojave, and the main panels are reachable in a short walk. It is an easy addition to a Laughlin or Big Bend visit.
Amenities
- Short walking route to the main petroglyph panels
- Shaded canyon section with spring water and cottonwoods
- Informal parking area at the canyon mouth
- No restrooms, water or developed facilities
Things to Do
- Walk to view the petroglyph panels
- Photograph the rock art and the canyon's cottonwoods
- Continue up canyon for a longer desert walk
Who This Is Best For
Rock art enthusiasts, photographers, families wanting a short walk and any visitor in the Laughlin area.
Parking Information
An informal gravel parking area serves the canyon mouth. There are no facilities, and the access road is unpaved.
Seasonal Information
Accessible year-round but most comfortable from autumn through spring. Summer heat in the canyon is severe, and the unpaved access road can be rough or washed out after rain.
Heat & Safety
Do not touch, chalk or climb on petroglyphs — oils and abrasion permanently damage them. Watch for snakes and loose rock, carry water, and avoid the canyon if rain is forecast because of flash flood risk.
